Journey with us into the Catlins after dark on this small boutique tour where you will encounter NZ’s critically endangered long-tailed bats and experience luminescent glow worms, lead by knowledgeable local nature guides.

Along the way, you may encounter other night creatures, including some of New Zealand’s beautiful moth species and possibly see or hear Ruru (the Morepork, our native owl).

The critically endangered Long-tailed Bat

Armed with a bat detector - and with a knowledgeable guide on hand to scan the sky with night-vision goggles, you are assured of the best possible chance of hearing the call of our critically endangered Long-tailed Bat... and if you are lucky, you may even see one.

After bat spotting we will move on to view a colony of glow worms. With both sides of the 200 m embankment colonized, it makes a spectacular sight.

The track down to the glow worms is quite steep but we will loan you a walking stick and provide a red light so you don't disturb these incredible bioluminescent insects
